Florida Lawns Are Being Transformed Into Edible Farms


A new volunteer-led organization, Fleet Farming, is transforming under-used yards into working farms, producing delicious fruits and vegetables. The bounty is then sold at local markets, and 100% of the sales go back into the organization.

‘It’s estimated that the average American meal travels about 1,500 miles to get from farm to plate, according to the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture. Globally, up to one-third of greenhouse gas emissions comes from the food and agriculture industry.
