Photographing Life in Urban Slums

For the first time in history, more people live in cities than in rural areas. But in some growing megacities, many of the world’s new urban-dwelling population must live in crowded urban slums. Photographer Jonas Bendiksen’s new book and website explore the enormous challenges of living in the slum (such as the lack of sanitation, healthcare, and electricity) as well as the diverse personal stories and outlooks of its residents.
